Wouldn't this be a great front-page headline for a newspaper these days, this year, right now? One wonders if peace on any large scale is even possible, much less a headline.
Instead, we will have to admire the two-deck, across-the-front headline in The Eastern Shore News from 75 years ago today — August 17, 1945.
The narrative below from the page reflects the happiness of the Eastern Shore — and everywhere else — at the news just days before that World War II had ended.
None of us wants another war, but it sure would be fun to have the circumstances permit a headline today like that one: "Shore Celebrates As Peace Comes Again To The World."
Maybe someday.
